Women's Union
The Women’s Union, which started when three different groups of women decided to unite as one group in October of 1899, is the oldest group in the Church still in existence today. It has a history of supporting the Church and community both spiritually and financially. In the year 2000 the Bylaws were revised to create the organization of autonomous circles or groups according to the interests and needs of Women, under the umbrella of Women’s Union. The purpose that was and still is as follows:
“---to support home and foreign missions, to work on philanthropic and community projects and to work together to build up the religious, ecumenical and social life of the Church.”
At present there are three groups who come together once a year for the Annual Meeting to review each group's programs and elect officers to the Steering Committee which coordinates the activities as needed and maintains the budget of the Union.
One group, the Wednesday Morning Circle meets the second Wednesday of the month at 1100 AM from October to May for a business meeting, lunch and a program or social activity.
Another circle is called the Spirituality Group that meets on the third Wednesday at 10:00 AM practicing the age-old "lectio divina" to help women discern their own spiritual journey. The Prayer Group, which meets every Tuesday AM in a private home, is a spin-off of the Spirituality Group.
The Friendly Circle, which meets every Tuesday all year from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, is the busy circle that produces all the handmade needle crafts for the annual Holiday Fair in December.
Women are encouraged to start a circle that will fill their own needs using whatever format they desire but agreeing to adhere to the Purpose of the Women’s Union which supports each Circle.
